Description
Emla Cream 5% is a topical anesthetic used to numb the skin before various medical procedures, such as needle punctures, IV catheter insertions, blood sampling, mechanical cleansing of leg ulcers, and minor skin surgeries.
Active Ingredients:
- Lignocaine 25mg/g
- Prilocaine 25mg/g
Instructions for Use on Leg Ulcers:
- Application: Apply a thick layer of Emla Cream evenly over the entire ulcer. Use approximately 1-2g per 10cm² of ulcer surface. Do not exceed a total of 10g at any one time.
- Dressing: Cover the cream with an occlusive dressing and secure it with adhesive tape, ensuring all edges are properly sealed.
- Duration: Leave the cream on for at least 30 minutes. For improved anesthesia, it can be left on for up to 60 minutes.
- Removal: Your doctor or nurse will remove the occlusive dressing and Emla Cream just before cleaning the ulcer. Cleaning should commence within 10 minutes of removal.
- Disposal: Dispose of any remaining Emla Cream from the tube after use.
Instructions for Use on Intact Skin:
- Preparation: Ensure the skin is clean and dry, free from makeup or other substances. Press out approximately 2g of Emla Cream at the site where the procedure will be performed.
- Dressing Application:
- Take one of the occlusive dressings provided and remove the center cut-out piece.
- Peel off the paper liner from the dressing frame.
- Cover the Emla Cream with the dressing, ensuring a thick layer underneath without spreading the cream. Smooth down the edges to prevent leakage.
- Remove the paper frame. The application time can be marked directly on the occlusive dressing.
- Duration: Emla Cream should be applied at least 1 hour before the procedure starts. It can remain on the skin for several hours without losing effectiveness.
- Procedure Preparation: Immediately before the procedure, remove the occlusive dressing, wipe off the Emla Cream, and clean the area with alcohol. The effective skin anesthesia can last for at least 2 hours after removing the dressing.
Additional Notes:
- Storage: Store Emla Cream in a cool, dry place and ensure the tube is securely closed when not in use.
- Safety: Follow all instructions carefully and consult with your healthcare provider regarding any concerns or questions about the application or effects of Emla Cream.
Emla Cream 5% provides effective topical anesthesia, making medical procedures more comfortable for patients by numbing the skin surface. Always use under medical supervision and adhere strictly to the recommended application procedures for optimal results and safety.
